1.What is your best virtue?
I don’t really know if I have a best virtue. I feel like I am always trying to improve in areas of my life and I often feel like I am not succeeding like I want to, but I want to be someone that my four kids can be proud of. I have been told that I am extremely patient and that I am flexible, but I feel like I am always wanting trying to get things done quicker or I am becoming frustrated because things are not going how I want them to, but I internalize so others often do not see the struggle. I try to reflect on my faults, and I am always trying to learn from my mistakes, so I would say my best virtue is resilience.
2. What inspires you?
My children! I am blessed with 4 children total. I have two of my own and two bonus children. Bentley my bonus son is 13 and he has a determination about him. Even when he fails at something he is passionate about, he still keeps pushing and doesn’t give up. Harmony my 12-year-old has heart of forgiveness. She can be guarded at times, but she truly cares for others. Kelsey my bonus daughter is 9 she is everyone’s biggest cheerleader and always wants to help others. Rowan is my 1 year old and he is full of so much joy that it is contagious.
3. Who are your heroes and why?
Christ, because I would not have made it as far in life as I have without Him. He has rescued me from many situations as well as has given me strength when I thought I would not make it.
My other hero is my daughter Harmony, she has experienced so much in her life and still has a heart for others and chooses to find goodness in the world. She is always willing to try new things and face challenges.
4. How would you describe your perfect day?
My perfect day would be getting up and meeting my best friends for a relaxing day on the beach, reading a good book and not coming home with a sunburn! Then later, coming home to my husband having dinner cooked and the house cleaned!! Finally curling up on the couch with him and all the kids to watch a movie together.
5.What is something you have always dreamed of doing?
I have always dreamed of traveling to Australia. I have always wanted to go to the Australian Zoo and see the Sydney Opera House. I also want to see the Great Barrier Reef before it is completely gone.
6.What causes are you passionate about? Why?
One cause that I am extremely passionate about is the Tiger Buddies Program that I started with my Student Council kids. It started out as just throwing our AAS classroom a Christmas Party four years ago. Last year, we named the program Tiger Buddies. We partnered up a Student Council member with a student that was in the AAS classroom or part of our Special Olympics team. The idea is for the pair to form a valuable relationship. Last year we hosted a Trick or Treat event, Christmas Party, Valentine Party, cheered them on at the Special Olympics basketball tournament, and took them on a field trip to the zoo. Last year we had 22 Tiger Buddies this year we are starting with 41. We have had to bring NJHS members on with us to make sure everyone gets their own buddy!
7.What is the best gift you have ever received and why?
I am not sure if it is considered a gift but when I was younger, I told my Nana and Grandaddy that the only thing I wanted when they passed away was the ceramic nativity scene that my Nana hand painted. I remember that every Christmas Eve my Nana would read me the birth of Jesus from the Bible and then I would get to place Baby Jesus in the manger (the manger was empty until then). After they had both passed, I was given a container that had a handwritten note on it that the contents of the container were for me. It was the nativity set!
